Sweet Summer Headband

Easy, soft and comfortable. Great headband!

Crazycutecrochetanddesign.com

The reason I call this a “summer” headband is because it is cotton or a cotton combination, and is intended to be worn when the weather is warmer – perhaps to help hold hair back out of the face.

The hair tie gives the headband more adjustability and will help it fit more head sizes, although I am including three sizes here.

Materials needed:

Hair tie – smaller size

DK or sport yarn – small amount (probably less than 100 yards), cotton or a cotton blend is best

Size E hook

Stitches used, and abbreviations:

Sc = single crochet

Ch = chain

Dc = double crochet

Fpdc = front post double crochet

Yo = yarn over

** = repeat what is between the stars, for as many times as directions say

Lg = large

Dec = decrease

Notes:

Hold the hair tie next to the yarn, take hook under the hair tie, yarn over, and draw the yarn up, having the hair tie inside your sc.

Basicly, you are doing single crochets around the hair tie.

Look at the picturesto help you figure out how to attach the yarn to the hair tie.

The fpdc is going to be in the even numbered stitches. To create the fpdc, yarn over, go underneath the next post from right to left, yarn over, draw the yarn back up from the post, yarn over, draw the last yo through 2 loops on hook, yo and draw yarn through the rest of the loops.

When doing the fpdc on the last st, include both the post, and previous ch 2.

Directions for the medium and large size headbands are a bit different in the first 10 rows, and are written separately, below the directions for the small size.

It is actually easier to measure the sections of this headband, rather than count rows. Although I do count rows for this pattern, when I actually make headbands use my measuring tape, instead of counting!!

There are 2 inches of sc at the beginning and end of the headband, and 12” (small), 14” (medium), and 16” (large) of dc/fpdc

Here is the attachment of the yarn to the hair tie.

Notice I am holding the short end of the yarn, to keep it in place while I take the crochet hook  under the hair tie to grab the yarn, yarn over, and draw it back toward me. Then, just finish your single crochet. Do this for 6 single crochet stitches.

Another picture of a single crochet being created around the hair tie.

Picture shows hook under the post

From here, yo and draw yarn back under the post, finish the single crochet as usual.
